Chocolate Martini Cocktails make celebrating Valentine’s Day at home romantic, easy and delicious! They’re dessert in a glass and a fun way to toast the love of your special someone!
A couple of weeks back I made some festive Polka Dot Martini glasses in colors that coordinate with the cover of my next novel, The Restoration of Celia Fairchild, which will be released on March 2nd.
Those glasses were so much fun to make that I knew I wanted to make more! With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I decided to create a second set in pink, red, and silver polka dots.
Once I finished, I knew I needed to come up with a Valentine’s Day cocktail concoction that was just as yummy and a little bit decadent. Given all that, one ingredient came immediately to mind.
Chocolate.
Turns Out Chocolate Cocktails are a Thing!
I didn’t realize it until I started searching the internet for recipe inspiration but it turns out that chocolate martinis and cocktails are pretty popular. Who knew?
Okay, maybe you did. But it was definitely news to me.
It turns out that there a lot of chocolate cocktail recipes out there! But many seemed unnecessarily complicated to me. There was a lot of making of melting and double-boiling and making of ganache.
Don’t get me wrong, it all sounded delicious and delightful but something sounded off to me. I kept thinking, “Is it just me? Or does all that work essentially end in chocolate milk?”
Making Chocolate Martini Cocktails Doesn’t Have to Be.
I do love spending time in the kitchen. But I’m also really busy. So when I find a recipe shortcut that works, I take it!
In this case, the shortcut I took involved using good ol’ chocolate milk from the grocery store as the base for my Chocolate Martini Cocktail. A lot of chocolate cocktail recipes tend to use cream but I just couldn’t see spending the extra calories, not if I could get a similar result using chocolate milk.
After a little trial and error, I am happy to report that the experiment was a sweet success! Using chocolate milk let me create a Chocolate Martini Cocktail that is super chocolatey, absolutely scrumptious, and comes together in a flash.
Ingredients and Supplies for Chocolate Martini Cocktails
Here’s what you’ll need to make two cocktails…
- Martini glasses
- 2 T sugar
- 6 oz good quality real chocolate whole milk
- 4 oz whipped cream flavored vodka
- 2 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
- 10 drops orange bitters* (optional but it balances some of the sweetness)
- 2 strawberries for garnish
- Ice
- Cocktail shaker
How to Make Chocolate Martini Cocktails
Sugaring the rims of your cocktail glasses isn’t required but it looks pretty and is very easy to do. So why not?
Here’s how to do it…
Place a small amount of water into a shallow dish or saucer. Place a couple of tablespoons of sugar into another shallow dish. Dip the rims of the glasses into the water, then into the plate with the sugar. Twirl the edges around to make sure the rims are evenly coated with sugar. Set glasses aside.
Pour chocolate milk, vodka, Bailey’s, and bitters into a cocktail shaker that’s filled with ice. Shake vigorously then pour into prepared glasses. (If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, pour ingredients into a small pitcher of ice and stir, then pour into glasses.)
Slit two strawberries with a knife, leaving the top half of the berry intact. Slip a cut strawberry onto the rim of each glass as a garnish.
Lift your glass, toast your special someone, and enjoy!
